Benefits of Headwear
Prevent sunburn
Do you love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, trekking or going to the beach? Then you'll want to ensure that you bring a Headwear along to prevent harsh sun burns caused by UV light. The ideal Headwear for outdoor activities feature wide brims to protect your face and the top of your head.
Save your hair
Your hair goes through a lot already. From pollution, poor nutrition, stress to cosmetics, there are a number of factors that already affect your hair. Saving your hair from sun damage on the other hand is easily achievable. Just get yourself a baseball cap, bucket Headwear or any hat that goes with your attire everytime you step out to protect your hair.
Protect your eyes
Have you ever been told to not look into the sun directly? That's because long exposure to sunlight can damage your eyesight in the long run. Avoid risking eyesight impairment by wearing headwear, preferably a brimmed baseball cap that will shade your eyes from the sun's glare.
Help regulate body temperature
Depending on the weather, Headwear can help to regulate the body temperature by keeping your head warm or cold. This is especially true in colder places where it is imperative to protect the head with the right head gear. With a Headwear over your head, you can ward off frostbites and hypothermia while looking extra cute!
Types of Headwear
Beanies
Beanies are among the most common headwear and are available in different types. The most common materials used when making beanies are polyester fleece and polypropylene. Beanies are warm enough and comfortable for cold days and can be worn under a hood. However, the main disadvantage of beanies is they might not conceal the ears completely and are not windproof. These clothing items are versatile, and most people use them almost daily.
Bobble Hats
Bobble hats are beanies without a fabric smush at the top. These hats are made using yarn, and they have various functions. The main role of a bobble hat is to safeguard the owners from head injuries, to show their order, and show their marital status. These hats are perfect for winter, and their good quality keeps you warm and safe. Bobble hats are nice and warm, meaning you can wear them in the wind or rain. However, the main disadvantage of these hats is they are too noisy.

Chullos
This hat has been worn in the Andean region for many years, and it is hard not to see why. Chullo is a winter hat that covers the ears. These hats have ties that can be wrapped around the neck to keep the head toasty. Wool is the main material used to manufacture these hats. This wool is mainly derived from alpaca species. The alpaca wool is warm and soft, which explains why it is used for clothing. However, these hats are not ideal for the cold season unless you incorporate them with insulation.
Bomber Hats
Bomber or aviator hats are common among youth and serve various purposes. These hats are available in different designs and are ideal for winter.
Application of Headwear
Sports
Headwear and sports go hand in hand. From baseball Headwear to ski Headwear, sportswear is a popular category in hat design. One recent trend in sports hat design includes the use of moisture-wicking fabrics and ventilation technology to make Headwear ideal for all types of athletic activities. Hat designers can create custom Headwear for specific sports teams or athletic events. For instance, caps with their embroidered teams own logo or favorite sports slogans can help fans make a powerful statement.
Entertainment
Headwear are often seen as a part of costumes in the entertainment industry. From music videos to movies, Headwear can add character and personality to an outfit. Designer Headwear can be customized to match scene or costuming requirements, such as cowboy Headwear for cowboy movie characters, or top Headwear for historical figures. Hat designers can even make Headwear inspired by specific pop culture icons like David Bowie, Audrey Hepburn, and Michael Jackson.
Social Causes
Headwear can be a great way to show support for social issues and causes. Designers can create Headwear with slogans or messages that can help raise awareness on matters such as climate change, gun control, and equal rights, amongst others. Social cause Headwear can be an excellent way to express activism and support social movements. Often, donations from proceeds of these Headwear go towards various charities and non-profits.
Political Movements
Similar to social cause Headwear, political Headwear are a powerful way to convey a message. Hat designers have been creating political Headwear for decades, with iconic examples including the red "Make America Great Again" Headwear from the Trump campaign, or the "Hope" hat during the Obama campaign. Political Headwear are effective in showing support or opposition and making a statement. These can be great for rallies, marches, and other types of political movements.
Components of Headwear

The Crown
The crown is one of the most vital parts of a cap, and it hugs the head of whoever wears it. Essentially, it is the base onto which all other parts go.
The Eyelets
Have you ever wondered what the tiny holes at the very top of a Headwear crown are for? Well, their name is the eyelets, and their purpose is quite straightforward. They are there to let air into the Headwear, keeping your head cool and letting it breathe. These are especially important on rather hot summer days when good ventilation is essential.
The Front, Side, and Back Panels
Panels are sections of the crown that come together and give a Headwear its recognisable shape. A Headwear has front, side, and back panels, and most Headwear have up to five of them in total. They are all sewn together, and they give the crown its rounded look.
The Closure
A closure is always a part of a Headwear, and it is there to ensure it fits your head snugly and comfortably. There are three types of closures: fitted, adjustable, and stretchy.Headwear with a fitted closure are closed off at the back, and you have to find a size that works for you, as you cannot adjust it. On the other hand, adjustable Headwear have straps, buckles, or buttons at the back that allow you to set up a size that works for you and fits your head best. Finally, stretchy Headwear are also closed at the back, but they are made from stretchy fabric that fits multiple sizes at the same time.
The Sweatband
The sweatband is the line of fabric that covers the crown of a Headwear from the inside. As its name suggests, its purpose is to collect sweat and keep your head and hair as dry as possible.
The Visor
Popularly called‘the bill,'this part of a Headwear shields your eyes from the sun. It can be flat or curved, and it consists of plastic or cardboard and the fabric that covers it.
The Button
The button is what holds the Headwear panels together. Its place is right at the top of a Headwear, and it is made of plastic or metal.
Types of Headwear Materials
Cotton
Like a comfy cotton shirt or pair of pants, cotton hats are durable, breathable, easy to pack, and usually easily washable. Baseball caps are most often made of cotton or some sort of cotton blend. Cotton hats come in every imaginable color and are usually softer than hats made from other materials.
Wool Felt
Sturdy yet soft to the touch, wool felt is isa textile created by pressing wool fibers together and applying heat and moisture to force the fibers to tightly interlock; this creates a bond that cannot be loosened. Wool hats must be handled delicately when cleaning, so check our wool hat cleaning guide. Wool felt fedoras are highly popular, especially in the cooler months.
Straw
More than just a wheat byproduct for barnyard animals, straw is a versatile material used to make hats. Depending on the type of straw, it will vary in strength, durability, and color. Raffia is a commonly used straw made from the raffia palm; its resilience makes it for good packable and crushable straw hats. Toquilla straw from the toquilla palm is used for Panama hats and originates from Ecuador. Most straw can be woven into a hat, so pay attention to the tightness of the weave, evenness of color, and pattern.
Toyo
Although it's technically straw, toyo is its own material thanks to its distinct production process. Marked by a shiny, smooth surface, toyo is primarily made in Japan with shellacked rice paper and typically finished with a plastic glaze. Because it's machine made, toyo is affordable. While it is sturdy, it's best not to get it wet. This material is commonly used for sun hats and fedoras.
Fur Felt
This material iscreated in the same matter as wool felt, but with animal fur. Most fur felt hats come from rabbit although some also come from beaver and mink. Not surprisingly, fur felt is especially soft (you are touching an animal's fur, after all). Hats made from fur felt are pricier than those made from other materials and are typically considered a luxury item.
Synthetics
Unlike natural fibers that come from nature, synthetic materials are man-made fibers that are produced through a chemical process. Synthetic textiles include polyester, nylon, rayon, and acrylic. Often blended with natural fibers such as cotton or silk, synthetic hats such as baseball caps tend to be very durable and machine washable, but they do not breathe as well as natural materials.

Choose your ideal Headwear according to your face type
Before delving into the different types of face, you need to know how to know which one is the most suitable for your anatomy. To do this you just have to measure your forehead, your cheekbones, the line of your jaw and the length of your face with a tape measure, it's just 4 steps!
According to your personality
Don't forget that both the accessories and the clothes should represent the personality you have and never hide it or replace it. You don't have to choose a Headwear because it is worn more or less, simply because you like it and it suits you.In view of this, it is very important to know yourself and to know which style suits you best.
Depending on the hairstyle
Of course, since the Headwear will be a part of your face, your haircut and/or hairstyle must be taken into account. It is clear that many Headwear look better with short hair, while others will look great with longer hair. But which ones do and don't? Keep reading!
Choose your ideal Headwear according to the rules dictated by the protocol
As it happens with clothes, manners, etc., if we do not follow the ‘rules' or the established codes, we run the risk that the Headwear becomes an unwise accessory. To avoid this, it is necessary to know several aspects that we have to take into account when choosing one Headwear or another:As a golden rule, the size of the Headwear has to decrease as the day goes by. That is to say, in the morning showy or big models are admitted. However, as the afternoon arrives, the Headwear must be smaller and smaller until it is dispensed with at night. The shadow of the Headwear brim should be at most at eye level.
Process of Headwear
The appropriate shell mold for the model being produced is selected.
High-density polyethylene pellets are pulled from a supply hopper by a vacuum system. Pellets of colorant are mixed with HDPE pellets in a ratio of 4% to 96%.
The vacuum system then transfers the pellet mixture in to the injection molding press.
With in the press, the pellets are heated to melt them. The molten plastic is injected into the mold to form the head gear. The press opens the mold and ejects the shell onto a conveyor belt.
Picks the shell (head gear) up and cuts off the spruce (a lump formed where the molten plastic entered the mold).
Component parts of the suspension system are produced. Injection molding machines form head bands, plastic“keys”that will be used to attach the suspension system to the shell, and nylon strips and gears for the ratchet mechanism that will head-banc size adjustment to fit the headgear user.
Threads on end of a webbing strap through a slot in the end of a key. The worker folds the strap end back and sews it to the strap with a buttonhole machine, securing the key in a loop of the strap. The same process is repeated on the other end of the strap.
Inserts both ends of the head-hand strip into the ratchet mechanism.
Attaches a brow pad to the front of the head band strip by folding its tabs over the headband and hooking slots in the brow pad over nodules protruding from the bead-band.
Attaches webbing strips to the head band by mating slots on the keys with nodules on the headband. On a six-point suspension system, only four keys are attached to the headband; the other two keys will attach only to the hardhat shell.
Finally instruction booklet and the suspension assemble are placed inside the hat, and these components are placed into a plastic bag and box for dispatch.
How to Maintain Headwear
If you have a particularly delicate headscarf then it is probably a good idea to hand wash it instead of putting it in the washing machine. Use cold water and a gentle fabric softener to wash your headwear, rubbing it gently in the solution. Then once clean, either put it on a rack dryer or place it onto a towel and allow it to air dry. This will ensure you don’t get any heat damage or loss of gems and it will help your headscarves stay in great condition for as long as possible.
Whilst some headscarves are ok to put in the tumble dryer, we advise that you instead let them air dry. If your headscarf contains anything like elastic then tumble drying it could dry the elastic out and cause it to break. This is something you want to avoid happening, so make sure you have a backup headscarf and allow your washed one’s extra time to dry out naturally.
Headscarves like most items of clothing can get lint or hair on them over time, especially if not looked after properly. Luckily these are easy things to fix and can be removed but using a lint roller or using cello tape! Just wrap four fingers in cello tape making sure the sticky side is facing away from your fingers and there you have your lint remover!
If your headwear has gone out of shape for any reason or if it is creased after washing then using a hand steamer is a great way to get it back to normal. Just make sure to check your headscarf label to ensure using heat is ok.
